The following is the text of what I originally wrote as my reasons for leaving the game when the Acct Mgmt page asks you why. Apparently it’s too long and the page just reboots when you put this in and try to cancel. So I’m posting here and trying to cancel without giving a reason or somesuch. Acct time runs out June 30th iirc. Hopefully by then I’ll be well on my way to do the irl pvp thing.

TLDR: Lack of a “WORLD” in the world of warcraft. Plus pushing the enforcement of server rules, naming rules, forum moderation onto the player base. Specifically the Naming Policy, with grumpy old me just not happy with seeing people run around with racist or sexual or massively-high-ASCII names.
Log in.
Teleport.
Instanced raid.
Instanced arena.
Instanced BG.
Instanced dungeon.
Teleport.
Log out.
Sound like fun and interesting MMO story-driven gameplay to you?
Take away the teleports. Make BGs a part of the open world. Make raids a part of the open world. Make flying mounts just as dangerous as ground mounts. Give everyone a way to dismount people hovering afk. Give everyone an auto-parachute. Stop faction transfers. Promote server communities instead of battlegroup anonymous instanced content. Stop people posting on alts.
What’s the lore justification for being able to click a button and teleport out of a dungeon or Wintergrasp?
You’re right, there isn’t one. It’s not a story anymore. It’s not a world anymore. It’s just a collection of instances with some fancy scenery in between.
You ban me from the forums but prefer to keep the anonymous alts posting hate and vitriol. Good luck. I’m sure you’ll be very successful with the convenience now-first-last-and-always crowd. RP rulesets that aren’t enforced unless players complain??

At which point does too much become TOO MUCH?
Players on Normal and PVP servers are there because they don’t care if someone is named “Darthbunny” or “Arthasxxlol” or “éûzzøolπ”. But there’s absolutely no support whatsoever of naming regs on RP and RP-PVP servers. “Turdburglar”? “Skinheadswp”? “Analboi”?
You push ALL of the responsibility for this onto the playerbase, and I’m not interested in fighting that uphill battle anymore. I no longer care about the environment on my server, since every single dungeon and BG I go into has people from different rulesets that I only see for a few minutes and then never again. Seen a few names now with one or two normal characters and the rest high-ASCII. What?
World pvp.
Tight-knit server communities.
Rivalries. Vendettas. Faction pride.
Congratulations, you’re hugely successful. But this game isn’t for me anymore.
Minor issues:
Tauren on flamingoes and dragonhawks. Graphics clipping. Invisible walls. Easy Raider ™. Lack of an Algalon unlockable encounter in ICC. Stop-gap stuff like the Argent Tournament. Lolburstlolpvp. Homogenizing classes. Overloading my UI and my skills at macro’ing together the 20-30 abilities I use on a regular basis in or COMING OUT OF cat form. And now you want to just add some more stuff? Mushrooms?? Life Grip? (A.k.a. “Griefer’s Paradise”). Greater Internet F***wad Theory haven on server and other forums. Sure the game is tons better now than it was back at 60 and pre-60. But it was also a WORLD back then. Now it’s just a collection of instances with some fancy stuff in between.
All you do is whine. Half the blogposts is about whining.

Agree with you about lacking a world in World of Warcraft. Everything is instanced and instant teleports these days. There is no journey anywhere.
i am sad to see you go, tho i agree is hard to find amusement in the game after several years.

It’s an account cancelled post. You expected “HEY GREAT GAME IT’S SO AWESOME EVERYTHING IS SUNSHINE AND UNICORNS”?? Speaking of which, it *IS* a great game, just not for me anymore. You and the instant gratification/Xbox Live/Playstation crowd please continue to enjoy it.
I would not really say games like MAG on the Playstation are instant gratifications games like Call of Duty but I see what you mean with the teleporting thing… the whole point of an MMO is exploring anr travel. Heck I remember when I first started playing I would count my HK in battlegrounds until I could get enough, then it was off to the Highlands or Ashenvale on that god awful voyage, but I’ll tell you what I loved being able to walk through those lower level zone and ask other new but lower level players if they needed help with a quest and I made a lot of friends that way. In a last attempt to see the world I started leveling another character before Cata mows down places like Feralis to make way for void zones, flashy water and pools of lava.
It’s the end of an expansion… You expect anyone to have any reason to wander around Borean Tundra anymore? The world PVE content in Northrend is 18 months old and dead never mind the rest of the game. Giving people the ability to port into and out of instanced areas was about the only stopgap measure they had left to keep people playing before Cata, and to get people to even bother logging in. – I think Blizzard gets your POV Perfectly and is inherent in their decision to completely revamp the entirety of non-instanced Azeroth – give players a reason to go out there again.

Although world pvp is even harder to find on a normal realm (yeah I know, but I’ve been there too long before I realized my mistake, plus I made some good friends), sometimes I can stir some shit up in wg after matches 
And just as I was beginning to get used to have your blog in my regular website checking rotation… You were the one who inspired me to stop being a wuss and rip some faces off
But this isn’t about me. Yes, I agree with most of the things you say. Especially teleports… nothing worse than “where is the entrance guys lol”. And “fixing” fun bugs like mountig up/flying while a DBW form is active. What trouble they could cause is beyond me.
On the other hand, leveling alts could cause serious physical pain without some of these new changes. After the 2nd alt it’s kinda painful to do all the quests you already did twice. Especially after lvl 60, where you can’t really say “you know what? screw westfall i’ll go to darkshore instead”.

Even leveling alts in STV or something… Normally I would just chill and keep questing, but after reading your blog for a while now I gank as much as possible. I forget which post it was, but you said something a while back like “next time you see someone while questing or doing dailies, gank them! do your part in keeping world pvp alive!”
I actually initially started reading your blog because you made quite a few smart and well though-out posts on EJ, and your video you posted of “Guide: How To Feral DPS”. I really liked that video, for some reason.
But anyway, if you really are quitting… goodluck with that rl thing. Thanks for putting some great info out there on kitty/bear’s and keeping an entertaining blog.

also… since sub 60 all the dungeons and event he introduction of molten core were “instances”… hell thats what they were introduced as…
the “lack of a world” as you put it, is your own inability to do what you show in your videos, and explore the world, find something to entertain you instead of subscribing to the lemmings that play….
(incidentally I did read the whole post, but your lack of a world comment seemed to be the predominate reason so I choose that to base my comments on, the other reasons still have validity to you and I am not trying to downplay them, just an FYI)

While I don’t necessarily agree with all of your points, I do find them all valid. The World largely melted with the additions of flying mounts and increasing instanced content. And the ASCI characters are ridiculous as well. One or two characters in a valid cultured/ethnic name I can understand. But in most cases it’s simply someone trying to nab a name that is clearly either taken or not allowed otherwise.
I’m saddened to see you go, ColdBear. Your feral DPS video really reinvigorated my interest in my feral-for-life druid. It was a most excellent piece, both in for its in-depth informative content and the pure entertainment value.
As you are an outspoken, rather highly visible person in the WoW community I hope that Blizzard will take note of some of your concerns, comments, and opinions. Sadly, though it’s more likely to be just another -$15 to them.
